RepYourBlockCuyahoga needs you to help build a Democratic Party in Cuyahoga County that will fight for all.
Cuyahoga County is one of the most Democratic counties in Ohio, yet important strategic decisions are made by a few party insiders that don’t reflect the will or values of voters. This has decreased interest in elections, leading to lower voter turnout in Cuyahoga County.
The time is now to work towards an energized party that can elect the leaders we need to take power from the traditional power brokers and return it to the people.
One important step is for progressive people to run for a seat on the Central Committee of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. We need you to step up to run for this important yet little-known entity made up of 897 citizens just like you.
The problem and our challenge
During the 2024 Presidential Election in our county, 5% fewer people voted in the General Election than in 2020. In the most recent election, only 26% of registered voters turned out to vote. We think this is occurring because many voters see politics as distant, often undemocratic, and not relevant to their lives. We think an activated party will go a long way towards reversing this decline in voting.
Because the Democratic Party is so prominent in Cuyahoga County, most city-and state-level candidates have ties to the Cuyahoga Democratic Party and rely on party endorsements and resources. While Central Committee membership is the smallest role you can play in the party, nevertheless, as a Central Committee member, you can have a say in who is on the Executive Committee and thus the party’s endorsements and in the shaping of the party’s direction.
Being on the Central Committee will open doors for you and help pull back the curtain so you can see how politics in Ohio really works.
What can the Central Committee do?
RepYourBlockCuyahoga envisions a much more robust Central Committee, where members have a real say in a new vision for the party in Cuyahoga County, promoting “small d” democracy in one of the most Democratic counties in Ohio.
We think Cuyahoga County should set the standard for innovation and political energy in the Ohio Democratic Party, and we should have a Central Committee that is inclusive, participatory, and transparent in its actions.
Being a Central Committee member will be what you make of it! The basic time commitment is not high, but holding the position will give you leverage to take on bigger initiatives and make connections across our county.
