The  process to run is really pretty simple, and we will help you with every step.   You only need to obtain the signatures of 5-15 registered voters in your precinct. It could be as simple as asking your neighbors and family.

Nominate a local leader to run

If you are not ready to run yourself but know someone who would be a good candidate, reach out to them and feel free to share the link above with them.

Here are the steps to run for the Central Committee:

  1. Print the petition form 2-L, “Declaration of Candidacy Form” from the Secretary of State’s website

  2. Fill out the Declaration of Candidacy form with the name you use to vote.

  3. Fill in your precinct, ward, and city accordingly. You can find your precinct by filling in your name and birthdate here.

  4. Get the voter list for your precinct here: City Districts

  5. Get 5-15 signatures from registered Democrats in your precinct. (Note: Republicans and No Party voters should NOT sign your petition.) Aim to get a minimum of 10 signatures.

  6. Make sure you or the person who obtained your signatures completes and signs the Circulator Statement.

  7. Make a copy of your petition.

  8. Turn in your petition (do not mail it) at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 1803 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, by the deadline of February 4, 2026.

If you have an opponent, you will need to run a small campaign to support your election.

  1. After the filing deadline on February 4, 2026, check to see if you have an opponent on the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections website: 2026 Candidates List

  2. Starting in March and April, talk with your neighbors who you know are Democrats and your ward or city Democratic club, tell them you are running for Central Committee, and ask for their support.

  3. In April, make a flyer about your candidacy and circulate it to the list of Democratic voters in your precinct, telling them why you are running and what you hope can be accomplished with new members on the Central Committee.  We can provide a template for this with your picture.
